Latina Teachers Book Study

Hello friends!
I am so excited about sharing this upcoming book study. If you don't know about the #ELLchat_BkClub Twitter community, I'd recommend you check it out and join us. There's a wonderful group of passionate English learners' educators who join round-after-round learning through wonderful books published specifically to support ELs. A couple of months ago I came across the book Latina Teachers by Dr. Glenda M. Flores. The book is a research on the impact of the growing number of Latinas who are going into education. I was so excited about it that I twitted it to see if anyone in the professional network had heard about it. I was impressed by the response and interest, (especially Latinas,) that we decided to add it to the #ELLchat_bkclub rounds.

So, starting on September 15th, 2019, we will be reading this book and discussing weekly questions and interesting topics.  I am honored and thrilled that Katie Toppel is allowing me to lead this book study. 
Please join us! Even if you don't have the book and/or you don't have much time, join the discussions by following the hashtag and learning with us. 

The schedule for round 21.0 might be as follows:​
Week 1: Sunday September 15th - September 21st 

• Participants Book selfies/Introductions (we're using Flipgrid) and Introduction Chapter

Week 2: Sunday September 22nd - September 28th

• Chapter 1 - From "Americanization" to "Latinizatio" 
• Chapter 2: - " I Just Fell into It": Pathways into the Teaching Profession

Week 3: Sunday September 29th - October 5th

•  Chapter 3 - Cultural Guardians: The Professional Missions of Latina Teachers

Week 4: Sunday, October 6th - October 12th 

• Chapter 4 -  Co-ethic Cultural Guardianship: Space, Race, and Region

Week 5: Sunday, October 13th - October 19th 

• ​Chapter 5 - Bicultural Myths, Rifts, and Shifts

Week 6: Sunday, October 20th - October 26th 

• Chapter 6 - Standardized Tests and Workplace Tensions
